FAMILIES filled The Ashcroft in Whitworth to see a special screening of Lightyear for just £3 per child, with adults watching for free.

Holly Marsland attended with her son Finley, three, and her daughter Alice and as Finley left the hall at the end of the movie he said: “That was an awesome film.”

Holly said: “It has been good and the children have watched most of the film, I am surprised how long Finley sat watching it but it helped that it was such a big screen.

“It was just like going to the cinema, but all the children could play together at the front if they wanted to. I have just been looking at what is coming up and we will be coming again.”

Rossendale Leisure Trust manages The Ashcroft and Facilities Manager Aimee Walker said the hall was able to provide visitors with the ‘cinema experience’ with a huge six-metre screen and four speakers to surround the room with sound.

She said: “We made it an informal setting with tables and chairs so parents have places for their drinks and snacks and we have an area with toys on at the front if the children want to play.

“We also have lots of free car parking spaces at the back of The Ashcroft.”

Nanna Ayshea Nicholson attended with her grandchildren Alfie, four, and James, seven.

She said: “It was brilliant and great value for money. I like that we could be sat at a table and not in a formal setting and that all the children could mix and play together.

“I have been here before for a bingo night at Christmas and my daughter-in-law gets information about what is going on and we will definitely be back.”

In October the cinema will be open during half-term for a showing of The Addams Family 2 on Thursday, October 26, and an over-18s movie night on Friday, October 27 when the horror film Smile will be shown. All films are just £3 per person with adults free at children’s films.

The large hall, which can also be split into two smaller halls has also been used as a venue for NHS conferences, Holiday Activities and Food sessions, school presentations, awards evenings, boxing nights and much more, and is available to hire for corporate activities.
