National Workout and Wellbeing Week

Find out how fitness can have a great effect on our mental wellbeing.

Working out, going to the gym and improving your fitness levels doesn’t just have a physical impact, it also has a positive impact on your mental health and wellbeing. Mental health is becoming more and more of an issue with more concern surrounding it, but there are things you can do to keep on top of your mental wellbeing. There are many factors of your mental wellbeing which can be improved by exercising and increasing your fitness levels.

Many benefits can include the following :

Sleeping Better - Even short bursts of exercise in the morning or afternoon can help regulate your sleep patterns. If you prefer to exercise at night, relaxing exercises such as yoga or gentle stretching can help promote sleep.

Increased Self Esteem - Regular activity is an investment in your mind, body, and soul. When it becomes habit, it can foster your sense of self-worth and make you feel strong and powerful. You’ll feel better about your
appearance and, by meeting even small exercise goals, you’ll feel a sense of achievement.

Sharper Memory and Thinking - The same endorphins that make you feel better also help you concentrate and feel mentally sharp for tasks at hand. Exercise also stimulates the growth of new brain cells and helps prevent
age-related decline.

These are just some of the factors which can affect your mental wellbeing, if you are feel like any of the barriers below may be stopping you from exercising then find out the solutions listed below and you can start exercising this week.

Little motivation - If you are feeling low in motivation and you feel like you are experiencing low self esteem then exercise is a brilliant way to increase your motivation for everyday tasks. This may include getting up in the morning or even small tasks such as going to the shops etc. By exercising you increase both your physical and mental health, the look good, feel good cycle is where you will increase your physical state which will make you feel so much better about yourself. This increase in confidence and self esteem will give you a more positive outlook on life.

Little time - When it comes to exercise there is no such thing as having no time to exercise. Exercise can be done anywhere and at any time. If you are spending your evenings taking your son to football training then how about
a speed walk around the venue or even a light jog, or if you are working a long shift then how about using your lunch break to take a short jog. These little bursts of exercise will definitely improve your mental wellbeing.

Financial Status - Everyone always assumes that exercising can be very costly and that isn’t true. There are many classes available which cost only around £4 per session.
