Alex Wood's Guide to Macros

Alex Wood's Guide to Macros

Alex has broken down Macros for us...

The eat-well plate and food pyramid have been around for a very long time and people are still using them both - this is great, it means that people are taking control of the food they eat and making conscious decisions about it!

Once people start getting into exercise and wanting to see specific results, the volume and type of information out there can often be misleading and confusing. Fitness magazines often have full-page spreads on protein supplements, daily and weekly magazines feature weight loss pills all as full page adds. This often leads to people jumping to the assumption that in order to get to the ‘ideal’ look they need supplements!

However, this is where the majority of people go wrong!
They focus on something which should only be used to fill in minor gaps within their nutrition and rely on it to get them to where they want to be!

The pictured food pyramid shows what actually needs to be done and the importance it plays within nutrition.

  • At the bottom is calories, the simple answer is if you are not taking in enough or eating to many for you goals then you won’t achieve what you have set out to do.
    • If you can consistently eat the correct number of calories for you goal, then it’s time to look more at the macros of your food.
  • Carbohydrates, Protein and Fats - all need to be included within your daily calorie requirements. This is where it starts to get a bit more complicated as person A may require so many grams of carbs a day whereas person B will require double that of person A!

For a lot of people this is as far as they will need to go.

Finding that starting point though can be sometimes tricky. This is where coming and speaking with an instructor can help, utilising the Boditrax® system we can help guide you in the right direction, there are also many apps out there that can accurately help you record you calories and macros.

If you start with the basics and a solid nutritional foundation the rest will start to fall in place.

To begin with CALORIES are KING!!!!
