To be booked on candidates need to complete a water ability assessment consisting of;

  • Be 16 years on date of assessment (last day of course)
  • Swim 100m on front followed by 100m on back continuously
  • Swim 50 meters in 60 seconds or less
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Jump or dive into pool and retrieve an object from the deepest part of the pool
  • Climb out of deep water without the use of steps or ladder

Completing the RLSS NPLQ is the first step in your career within the leisure industry. Lifeguards benefit from varied working hours which you can easily fit around your other commitments, working within a team and there’s also the opportunity to progress your career within the leisure industry as most leisure managers start off as Pool Lifeguards.

Pre-Requisites For Our Lifeguarding Courses In Rossendale

Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be 16-years-old at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

  • Jump / dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 meters in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 meters continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

A water ability assessment will be arranged prior to booking on the course to ensure the above skills can be met.

The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool. Training and assessment for the NPLQ is in three sections and all must be successfully passed to attain the qualification. The assessment is taken by an independent RLSS Trainer Assessor.

Courses at Marl Pits are generally held over February half term, Summer holidays and October half term, offered to internal (apprentices/casual) and external.

The IQL Level 3 First Aid at Work Qualification covers a wide range of CPR and first aid skills, equipping the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illness.

This three-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe working environment. The qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for three years, making it suitable for all industries and enabling you to meet HSE requirements.

The First Aid at Work course is 18 hours and can be delivered over three consecutive days or can be split into smaller sessions and delivered over a 10 week period from the start of the course.The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid.

Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment. No prior first aid knowledge is required.

The IQL Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification enables a first-aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work.

This one-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe working environment. The qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for three years, making it suitable for all industries and enabling you to meet HSE requirements.

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is six hours and can be delivered in one day or split into smaller sessions over a four week period from the start of the course. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, including practical assessment on CPR and first aid.

The award is valid for three years as of the date of assessment.

Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment. No prior first aid knowledge is required.

The IQL Level 3 Paediatric First Aid covers a wide range of CPR and first aid skills, equipping the first-aider to administer first aid to children and infants.

This two-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills related to children, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe environment for children and infants. The qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for three years.

Paediatric First Aid is 12 hours and can be delivered over three consecutive days or can be split into smaller sessions and delivered over a 7 week period from the start of the course. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid.

Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment. No prior first aid knowledge is required.

Junior Lifeguard course at Rossendale Leisure Trust

Suitable for children 8 years + who can swim 200m and be confident and are confident in deep water and submersion. Topics covered are rescue, self-rescue, survival skills, basic first aid & CPR.
