October half term is a great chance to take a break from the school routine, keep the kids active and spend some extra time in the pool.

For children learning to swim, regular practice can make a real difference. Whether they’re still building confidence in the water, working towards their next swimming stage or trying to improve a particular stroke, an extra session gives them more time to practise what they’ve been learning.

Why is extra swimming practice helpful?

Build confidence in the water

Confidence doesn’t always come overnight. Some children need a little more time and encouragement to feel comfortable trying something new.

An additional swimming session gives them another opportunity to practise in a familiar environment, helping them feel more comfortable and confident in the water.

Practise those all-important skills

Swimming is a skill that develops through practice and repetition. Extra time in the pool can help children reinforce things they’re already learning, from floating and kicking to breathing, strokes and turns.

It can also be a chance to focus on something they might be finding a little tricky during their usual lesson.

Keep up their progress during the holidays

It’s easy for routines to change during the school holidays, but keeping swimming in the mix means children can continue practising their skills rather than having a long break from the pool.

Even one extra session can be a useful opportunity to revisit skills and keep them feeling familiar.

A little extra support can go a long way

Every child learns at their own pace. A one-to-one lesson gives the instructor the chance to focus entirely on one swimmer and tailor the session around their ability and what they’d like to work on.

For siblings or friends, a one-to-two session is another option, allowing two children to learn together while still getting focused support.
