Rossendale Leisure Trust is proud to announce that Oliver Walsh, a talented young athlete from the Valley Shoraii Karate Club, has been selected as part of the Rossendale Rising Stars Scheme – an exciting new initiative designed to support the borough’s most promising young athletes.
Oliver, who competes at international level in Para Karate, recently made headlines by winning Gold in Para Kata at the WKKA World Championships in Portugal 2024. His dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence have earned him a place among Rossendale’s rising stars.
The Rossendale Rising Stars Scheme offers free fitness memberships to athletes aged 11-25 who live, train, or study in Rossendale and compete at regional level or higher. Members gain access to Rossendale Leisure Trust’s gyms, swimming facilities, and fitness classes. All aimed at enhancing their training, improving performance, and supporting both their physical and mental wellbeing.
Oliver shared his thoughts about joining the scheme:
“Competing in Karate means I need to maintain my strength and endurance. Having the support from Rossendale Rising Stars will give me access to RLT facilities, which will really help me improve both my fitness and strength as I prepare for future competitions.”
The initiative reflect Rossendale Leisure Trust’s commitment to progression, inclusion, and community empowerment, ensuring that all young athletes regardless of background have the resources and support they need to pursue their sporting dreams.
